 Will the 2021 Straddie Salute by a Co-Vid Safe event?

Yes, the 2021 Straddie Salute Triathlon will take place on Saturday 15 May 2021 under a COVID Safe Event Checklist as required by Queensland Health.

Icon Events, in developing the COVID Safe Event Checklistwill work closely with all key stakeholders including Queensland Government, Redland City Council, Triathlon Australia, Triathlon Queensland and approved event suppliers.

The COVID Safe Event Checklist will be developed to manage the risks associated with the transmission of the virus, and ensure that competitors and their supporters can attend the event in a CoVid Safe manner.

The COVID Safe Event Checklist will demonstrate Icon Events commitment to education, hygiene, density reduction, touchpoint minimisation, athlete self-reliance, screening and contact tracing.

If you or an immediate family member living in the same household have COVID-19 symptoms prior to or including race day 15 May, 2021 please do not attend the event.

What if I have to withdraw from the event due to a CoVid-19 related issue?

If you or an immediate family member living in the same household have COVID-19 symptoms prior to or including race day 15 May, 2021 please do not attend the event.

If you are unable to attend the event due to any CoVid-19 related issue (including if you or your immediate family member living in the same household show symptoms or an inability to travel due to government restrictions) Icon Events will refund your registration fees in full at any stage up until and including event day (less a $10 administration fee). Contact us at media@iconevents.com.au to arrange your refund.

Is it a wetsuit swim?

Probably not. Triathlon Australia rules apply so if the water temperature is more than 22 degrees wetsuits are not permitted. At our last event on May 18, 2019 the water temperature was 23 degrees.

I own a ROAD bike, which triathlon should I compete in?

The Straddie Pure – this includes a 25km ROAD cycle to Amity village and back.

I own a MOUNTAIN BIKE bike, which triathlon should I compete in?

The Straddie Salute – this is an 15km cycle which includes 10km of 4WD track.

How old do you have to be to compete in each event?

Triathlons – Individual 15 years+       Team 14 years+

Adventure Run – Over 10 years old but children 12 years & under must be accompanied by a nominated adult

StraddieKidz – 5 – 12 years

Are the roads closed to vehicle traffic on the cycle course?

No they aren’t. Roads will remain open to traffic, however all intersections are managed by traffic controllers to ensure vehicles are managed when cyclists are on-course.

When on the open road, cyclists must stay left at all times – standard Australian road rules apply.

I haven’t done a lot of open-water swimming but am reasonably swim-fit, will I manage 750m in the ocean?

Yes. An ocean swim is always going to be more challenging than the pool but we have designed the course to cater for all abilities. The 750m course goes with the sweep so once you round the first buoy you’ll be flying!

How tough is the Straddie run course?

The run course is 8km and involves a variety of terrain including 2 beach sections, bush trails, boardwalk, stairs, sealed roads and footpath. The course is spectacular but don’t underestimate it. We recommend that you leave plenty in the tank after the bike leg..

How do I know my entry is confirmed?

Once you have completed your online entry form you will receive an automatic confirmation email. Please keep this as proof of entry.

Will I receive any other information before the event?

Yes you will. A comprehensive Competitor Briefing will be emailed to all competitors 10 days before the race. The briefing will detail all the information you’ll need to take part including the event schedule, information on the course and support services as well as local Straddie information and site maps.

Can I still enter on the day?

No triathlon day entries are available in 2021. You may enter on the day for the Straddie Adventure Run and StraddieKidz Duathlon.

Please also remember to bring cash as there will be no eftpos or credit card facilities on the day.

Do I still need to fill out an entry form if I am part of a team?

Yes you do. Team captains must enter online and before competing, each team member must sign an entry to confirm that they have read and agree to the ‘Participants Agreement’ Each Team Member must have purchased a Day License (Member 2 & 3 purchase through additional purchases)

Where do we check-in?

Registration for all events is at the Point Lookout Oval (18km from Dunwich, where the ferry lands). You can register early on Friday (1pm to 4pm) or on the day (6.30am – 9am)

How do I get to North Stradbroke Island?

Sealink ferries (vehicle & passenger) leave from Cleveland which is approximately 30 minutes drive from the Brisbane CBD. Ferries run regularly, 7 days a week and land at Dunwich which is 18km from Point lookout whre the event is held.

Can I do a Day Trip?

Yes you can. Sealink run a 6:00am & 7:00am crossings on Saturdays. These take approximately 45 minutes, so if you are doing the Triathlon you will still have time to drive to Point Lookout before Registration closes. If you book the 5pm or 6pm return ferry Sealink are offering a $119 Day Trip Return Special.

Bus services run between Dunwich and Point Lookout but please check the schedule. Note that on Saturday 15 May Straddie Buses will be running an extra bus service to meet the water 5.55am water taxi’s from Cleveland. Note that bikes are only allowed on buses subject to capacity – bikes are not guaranteed on Straddie buses

Individual entries are restricted to those 15 years+ and for Teams 14 years+

What is the Refund Policy?

  • A full refund (less a $10 admin fee) is available until 1st April 2021
  • A 50% refund or transfer to 2020 event was available from 2nd April  to 8th May 2021
  • No refund is available for withdrawals after 8th May unless it is a CoVid-19 related issue as above

Where does the Adventure Run start?

The Straddie Fun Run will start at the Point Lookout Oval at 7.30am sharp.

What do I need for the Fun Run?

Running shoes only! There will be 4 drink stations situated along the course so water bottles or hydration packs are not required.

What type of terrain does the course include?

The course starts at the Point Lookout Oval and includes roads, paths, beaches and of course one of Queensland’s most beautiful coastal trails.

Can I walk it ?

Yes! You are welcome to do the course at a leisurely walking pace and enjoy the spectacular views (please just keep left). Enjoy!
